The Aerolineas Argentinas plane, which landed last Friday at 7.50 hs from Aeroparque, was the first to release the new runway of the Tte terminal. Gen. Benjamin Matienzo.

The Ministry of Transportation of the Nation completely built the airport runway, adding 600 mts to the existing 2900, so that they can operate cargo flights to the maximum of their potential. Thus, with 3500 mts, that of Tucumán becomes the second longest track in the country after that of Río Gallegos.

The works were inaugurated on September 01 by the President of the Nation; participated: the Minister of Transportation, Guillermo Dietrich, the Governor of Tucumán, Juan Manzur and the Head of Aeropuertos Argentina 2000, Martín Eurnekian.

The new infrastructure involved the total reconstruction of the runway and the old commercial platform so that the airport can receive more flights. A new beacon system was also installed and the taxiways were made new to improve safety in operations. The works carried out within the agreed term lasted 60 days and involved a total use of 65.000 m3 of concrete, which is equivalent to the amount needed to build 27 km of highway.

"We carry out a monumental work and in the times that we promised. From today Tucumán returns to have its airport, but with one of the longest tracks in the country. All so you can receive more local and international flights and so that more blueberries can be exported. Here, as in the whole country, we are transforming the infrastructure so that it is a motor of development and growth for all Argentines.", Said Guillermo Dietrich, Minister of Transportation of the Nation

The inauguration of the Tucumán airport works is in addition to those executed last year, when the commercial platform was expanded allowing the creation of a blueberry export record.

Next year the works continue to completely renew the passenger terminal, build a new control tower and expand the vehicular parking and access. The works will benefit more than 750.000 people who visit the airport annually.
