"It is due to the interest and effort of producers and entrepreneurs to develop an agricultural business that has climate, but no soil ..."

Rodrigo Manasevich, is the executive director of UTILITAS, a company with several years of experience in outsourcing, or subcontracting, of export management and growth consulting, which is dedicated to supporting producers that require international positioning.

We talked with him about the great development of the Peruvian blueberry industry and about the necessary transfer of knowledge and training that this explosive growth requires in the short term.

- What do you think of the International Seminars that end this August 4 in Lima, are they relevant? help the industry? serve the producers?

- The seminars are a perfect instance to develop the business of the participants, since they converge learning techniques, knowledge of trends, opportunity to meet and meet people from the industry, resolve concerns, all of the above in a few hours. The challenge is that the content and quality of the speakers meet the expectations of the participants, which means that not all Seminars are the same. From my experience I can confirm that the seminars organized by Blueberries Consulting have always met my expectations, in all of them we have learned, developed new ideas and met very interesting people.

- In your opinion, what is the reason for the development of the Peruvian industry and what are its future prospects?

- In the first place, to the interest and effort of producers and entrepreneurs to develop an agricultural business that has climate, but no soil. Second, the facilitating role that the Peruvian authorities have shown for agricultural development. It is impressive to see how the government has developed an export platform in a short time, implemented a successful promotion strategy, built development poles, modified procedures, advanced in infrastructure, etc. The result of all that effort is that the world regards Peru as a productive actor as important as any other.

Manasevich is very knowledgeable about the reality of the Peruvian blueberry industry and not only explains this growth in its different variants, but also ventures to place some unknowns about the future in the medium term, and ensures that "Peru still has a way to go, much progress has been made, but in good times, because of the good results they have obtained. They still need to experience seasons with poor results. Today in general the demand exceeds the offer, in the future that will change. When that moment arrives they will start to develop different capacities to those they have today ", predicts.

We finally asked him about the strengths and weaknesses of the Peruvian blueberry industry regarding the fluctuations of international markets, and he answered that regarding the strengths he can identify the commercial window in which it is produced, "The variety they produce, which is the taste of the American market", he adds, and also highlights the speed at which the plants reach full production and "The capital they have to make important investments".

Regarding the shortcomings, the director of UTILITAS puts the main focus on the deficiencies in infrastructure of roads and ports; the lack of knowledge to export to distant markets and the lack of supply of new varieties. "Without a doubt, all with solution", it ends.
