Chile and China Eastern Airlines sign memorandum to promote the shipment and promotion of Chilean fruits
Chile has become an important supplier of fresh fruit to China. Among its offer, shipments of cherries, cranberries and avocados stand out. However, the distance between both countries makes exports difficult.
In this context, the Association of Fruit Exporters of Chile AG (ASOEX) and the airline China Eastern Airlines, in order to facilitate air exports from Chile to the Asian country, signed a memorandum of understanding.
One of the main points of the agreement seeks to develop mutual cooperation to promote the fruits of the South American country among Chinese consumers, as well as to promote the consumption of fruits from Chile through the flights of China Eastern Airlines and associated media.
The memorandum also establishes the exchange of information regarding the volume of Chilean fruit shipments to China. In addition, it seeks to improve logistics so that Chilean products arrive more quickly.
"The sane is not only about having better logistics for shipments of Chilean fruits, flights that we are thinking of expanding to give more frequency to Chilean fruit, but also involves the promotion of the fruit of Chile, for example, in our journals for the traveler, where we can announce the availability of Chilean fruit, but also show its production and quality ", reported Steven Fang, Vice President of Shanghai Eastern Airlines Express.
For his part, Ronald Bown, President of ASOEX, indicated that “this agreement is very important, since it allows us, from the logistical point of view, to have the possibility of arriving quickly at the beginning of each season, which is a complement to other similar activities to be carried out with other airlines. This is a very important airline, and the fact that its President has come to sign this agreement reflects the openness that exists to collaborate with each other, not only with logistics, but also with other activities that will be developed to promote our cherries in China".
In addition, Bown, announced that "One of the elements being evaluated is the possibility of inaugurating a shipment of Chilean cherries through China Eastern Airlines with the presence of the President of China, who will visit our country in November."
It should be noted that the agreement lasts one year, after which both parties will evaluate its development and agree on its extension.
