Good Polish blueberry season despite the weather

The blueberry harvest is coming to an end in Poland, there are only two weeks left. The combined climate, high temperatures and rain, has made this season a challenge for producers.

Joanna Ratomska, CEO of CoRe, says that in general they have had a good season, with large volumes and slightly higher prices than last year. The only drawback they have had has been the weather, which has caused some problems with maturity, but has only affected a small portion of the entire harvest.

Joanna explains that all the markets they supply seem to prefer the same type of packaging. Most blueberries are shipped in trays of 125g-200g.

In general, all markets want the same, the best possible quality, which means avoiding having soft fruit. The variety of blueberries that is most cultivated in Poland is Bluecrop, but also many later varieties such as Aurora, Late Blue, Cargo and Last Call grow. Producers have been busy this season trying new varieties of blueberries and have been implementing new late varieties to extend the season, only time will tell how everything works, but expect very good results, Joanna concluded.
