Chilean blueberries prepare to start export season 2017-2018 to Korea

An inspector of the Korean phytosanitary organism found visiting blueberry orchards, in diverse productive zones of the country, with the purpose of verifying the fulfillment of the Protocol of export established, to give beginning to the exports of this fruit.

The inspector of the Division of Risk Management of the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency of South Korea (APQA, its acronym in English), Park, Sung Woo, arrived on Sunday before last to Chile in order to verify the compliance of the measures established by that Asian country to authorize the start of Chilean exports of blueberries.

"The visit is part of the protocol established with Korea for the export of blueberries. In this sense, an APQA inspector travels to Chile to inspect at source the compliance of the measures established in the respective Technical Protocol, and once it certifies compliance, exports of these fruits can begin“, commented the General Manager of ASOEX.

Likewise, the professional commented that during the 2016-2017 season, Chile exported more than 1,000 boxes of fresh blueberries to the Korean market, which represented an 580% more than the previous season. Within Asia, Korea is in third place as a destination for Chilean blueberries, after China and Hong Kong.

This season the export sector wants to anticipate the start of exports. For what was coordinated with the SAG and the APQA, the visit of the inspector in advance.

Visit

The visit of the Korean inspector began last Monday with a meeting with professionals and technicians of the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) of the Metropolitan Region, who informed the visitor about the work of the Protection Division of said service, in addition to the National Program of Control of Lobesia botrana. After which a visit was made to the SAG Laboratory of Lo Aguirre.

On Tuesday 29 of August visited the O'Higgins Region, where he met with representatives of the SAG of the Region, and learned about the control program carried out in the area, and then go through blueberry orchards.

On Wednesday 30 of August Park, Sung Woo, met with professionals from the SAG of the Metropolitan Region, where he met the Control Plan and visited several orchards. Similar situation took place on Thursday 31 in the Valparaíso Region, concluding in a final meeting on Friday 01 in September with the authorities of the SAG central level.

Finally, it is highlighted that the visit was organized by the SAG, together with the Association of Fruit Exporters of Chile Ag (ASOEX).
