Germany: “Berries” grow exponentially in Brandenburg
In Brandenburg, buckthorn berries, aronia berries, gooseberries, raspberries, currants and blueberries are grown. In 2015, there were 49 Brandenburg companies that produced "Berries" in a total area of 730 hectares. The surface area was approximately 86 hectares greater than that of 2014. In comparison with 2012, the increase was 257 hectares.
Due to the global increase in demand for blueberries, the area of this fruit in Brandenburg has also increased to 166 hectares in 2016. However, sea buckthorn berries occupy a much larger area, with 330 hectares. There are twenty companies that cultivate organically in 61% of the total area of "berries". The largest area is in the Potsdam-Mittelmark region. In 2015, there were 14 companies there that cultivated "Berries" in 326 hectares.
